Workshops

The Tennessee Teaching and Learning Center offers a variety of workshops on topics that can help you design, develop, and implement different teaching strategies. Workshops are tailored to your requirements from our existing modules or can be created to meet the needs of instructors (faculty, adjuncts, or GTAs) at your college, department, or campus unit.

Educational research tells us that we learn most effectively when new information is presented within the framework of existing knowledge. Similarly, customized teaching and learning workshops allow groups of university scholars to focus on enriching pedagogical practices that help promote student learning at the University of Tennessee. Customized workshops are usually 75 to 90 minutes in length. University colleges interested in developing longer workshops can select from 3-hour, 6-hour, or multiple-day sessions.

Current workshop modules include:
Classroom Management
Learning Preferences (“styles”) and Best Practices for Teaching
Course Design
Writing Student Learning Outcomes
Active Learning Pedagogy
Use of Visuals in Teaching
Lecturing
Service Learning in a Course
Interculturalism
Teaching Millennials

To begin setting up a workshop, contact TENN TLC at tenntlc@utk.edu or (865) 974-3933. Please make clear your interest in setting up a customized workshop and designate a contact person from your department or program. A TENN TLC staff member with experience appropriate to the workshop focus will contact you to make workshop arrangements.
