Threshold Concepts and Curriculum Revision

Threshold Concepts are difficult concepts that are important for students to understand before proceeding in a course of study.

Instructors can design individual courses and courses of study around these concepts.  Although we often know from experience which concepts these are, there are new studies in disciplinary areas around threshold concepts.  For more information on TCs and the disciplines, see this “How To” paper on threshold concepts and course design.

Departments who wish to research and revise curriculum around difficult concepts may request support from the TennTLC.  For more information, contact us at tenntlc@utk.edu.
