New Faculty Orientation Program

In August of each year, the TENN TLC provides a ½ workshop on Teaching. This ½ day interactive workshop discusses pedagogical concerns of first year faculty members. The accompanying new faculty seminar is a weekly course in understanding pedagogical developments. Topics include student motivation, learning styles, basic principles of good instruction, course management, building productive relations with students, and assessment of learning.

Faculty Inquiry Groups:

Faculty Inquiry Groups (FIGS) each convene on a specific teaching topic or pedagogy. These learning groups participate in discussion, reading research, and practice. Current groups and the Faculty Fellows:

  • Reflective Practice, led by John Peters
  • Service Learning, led by Bob Kronick
  • Presentation, led by Jed Diamond

Ambassador's Program

The Tennessee Teaching and Learning Center has created a direct link to all departments on campus through its Ambassador's Program. A faculty member from each department serves as an ambassador of the TENN TLC. The Ambassador's Program functions as a virtual advisory board and provides a communications conduit back to colleagues in their respective departments. Ambassadors will also provide feedback to the Center as to specific departmental needs related to the improvement of departmental teaching and the enhancement of student learning.

UT Learning Consortium (UTLC)

The TENN TLC participates in a consortium of UT centers and other parties, all interested in teaching and learning at UTK. This group meets regularly to share ideas and support efforts to improve student learning.

Graduate Research Internship Program (GRIP)

The TENN TLC invites graduate students interested in teaching and learning research to apply to become TENN TLC Graduate Research Interns. Interns become an integral part of the TENN TLC through participation in researching workshop topics related to teaching and learning and partaking in the Center’s learning community.

Undergraduate Scholars Program

The Undergraduate Scholars program provides UT students with the opportunity to be part of the Tennessee Teaching and Learning Center. Students will be exposed to the most current research in teaching and learning and will participate directly with staff and graduate students in implementing the various activities of the Center.
