Formative & Summative Assessment of Learning and Teaching in the Classroom
Formative Assessment, at its most basic, is ungraded, usually anonymous, feedback by students on either a student’s impression of his or her own learning or a student’s opinions about elements of the course.
The most frequently cited resource for formative assessment is Classroom Assessment Techniques (CAT) by Angelo and Cross. A summary of several CAT techniques can be found here.
For more information, we have Angelo and Cross’ book in our center’s library. You can also read more about CATS for STEM fields at: http://www.flaguide.org/cat/cat.php
